Our Sunday Social in October will be a visit to Erasmus Darwin House in nearby Lichfield, the home of Charles Darwin’s grandfather. With its unique place in Georgian history Darwin House showcases the breadth of Erasmus Darwin’s interests and achievements, which laid the foundations for his grandson and evolutionary biologist Charles.
Erasmus Robert Darwin (1731-1802) was an English physician and one of the key thinkers behind the Midlands Enlightenment. He was also a natural philosopher, slave trader absolutist, inventor and poet.
Our Visit:
Starting with tea and biscuits we will be given a 45-minute talk followed by a self-guided tour of the museum (Reduced cost £2.50 admission per person).
Afterwards those for those who are interested, we may find a spot for lunch in Lichfield.
Getting Here:
There is good public transport connections to Lichfield , which includes frequent trains from Birmingham to Lichfield Train Station and the X3 Bus Route. Alternatively, there is cheap car parking nearby (£2) at Sandford Street, WS13 6QA.
Meeting Time:
If you coming via train we will be meeting outside Lichfield City Train station at 11:00, otherwise we will be meeting at at the House for 11:30 to start.
