We warmly invite you to join us at the Moseley Exchange this September, for a thought-provoking evening exploring the balance between personal freedom and social responsibility — through the lens of sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll.
We’ll reflect on shifting cultural attitudes across the decades, debate ethical questions from a humanist perspective, and hear from Carol, who worked with women’s charities and police services in the West Midlands.
Carol will share stories from her work supporting women affected by substance misuse, sex work and criminalisation — and help us unpack how laws and services shape the lives of those facing addiction and exploitation. With over 20 years of frontline experience, Carol brings powerful insights into the real-life consequences of addiction and exploitation reflecting on her career though the 80s, 90s and early 00s.
Expect open discussion and space to ask big questions — from legalisation and harm reduction, to the myths of the glamour and the cost to society.
Throughout the evening, we’ll explore:
🕰️ Looking Back — Changing attitudes to sex, drugs, and rebellion across the decades.
💭 Hot Takes & Big Questions — Ethical dilemmas through a humanist lens.
🔥 Real Stories — Carol’s experiences supporting women affected by addiction and exploitation in the Midlands.
🌱 What’s Next? — Imagining a more ethical and compassionate future.
Refreshments will be available throughout and the opportunity to socialise will be possible before and after the talk.
