At our April meeting we’ll be looking at the issue of assisted dying. As more countries and territories give legal recognition to the right to die, the campaign in the UK has been gathering momentum. There is widespread support for a change in the law, with a reported 84% of the public in favour of the choice of assisted dying for terminally ill adults. Humanists UK is a member of the Assisted Dying Coalition, which campaigns for a wider change to the law, to include people who are facing incurable suffering as well those who are terminally ill.
At the start of our meeting we’ll show a short video, made by My Death My Decision (also a member of the Assisted Dying Coalition) of their 2022 Doran Lecture, in which Dr Henry Marsh speaks about ‘Why the opponents of assisted dying are wrong’. This will be followed by a general discussion on the topic, led by committee members Alison and Liz.
